In view of the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Business and Executive Committee (BEC) of the Academic Board of the University of Ghana, Legon have presented their proposal for the reopening of the 2020/21 academic year.

The proposal includes a modular system for teaching and learning, an online teaching and learning portal, access to on-campus IT resources, and details of the year’s academic calendar.

For the 2020/21 academic year, undergraduate courses will be held primarily online, and per the statement, “it is expected that the regular 13 weeks of teaching will be delivered over a period of 6 weeks per session, with at least double the contact hours each week”.

The proposal further stated that although teaching will be delivered primarily on-line, practical and ethical course will be delivered face-to-face, while observing the required Covid-19 safety and prevention protocols.

With regards to the use of on-campus academic facilities and accommodation, “the University will be open to students who require access, as well as those who wish to take up accommodation on campus”.

In addition, students would report to school in batches.

Continuing regular students in level 200 and 400 would resume a semester earlier than their colleagues in level 100 and 300.

The first semester for the 2020/21 academic year commences in November 2020 for level 200 and 400 students while that of level 100 and 300 students starts in February 2021.

Graduate students and those taking distance education would resume teaching and learning before the end of the year.
In the statement signed by the Registrar, Mercy Haizel-Ashia, a number of schools under the university such as the Medical School, Dental School, the School of Biomedical & Allied Sciences, the School of Nursing and Midwifery, School of Veterinary and the School of Law will have different start dates due to the peculiar nature of their programmes.

Other members of the University’s communities were encouraged to look out for notices for further details on the matter via the University’s official channels.
