Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Member of Parliament(MP) for Odododiodio Constituency has sought to suggest that Fulanis are not Ghanaians
This follows the description of Ghana’s second lady Samira Bawumia as a foreigner by the lawmaker in making against the compilation of new voters’ register by the Electoral Commission
According to the Former Youth and Sports Minister under the erstwhile Mahama administration , the wife of Ghana’s Vice President is a Fulani who hails from Mali and therefore cannot be said to be a Ghanaian.
His comments were also in reaction to the ongoing debate over the compilation of a new voters register which has been vehemently rejected by the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC).
“The wife of Dr. Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana Samira Bawumia is not a Ghanaian,” he indicated in a radio discussion about Ghana’s National Identification process and system.
The opposition National Democratic Congress has raised concerns over the National Identification process, suggesting it has been shrouded with inefficiencies with attempts by the National Identification Authority in concert with the Electoral Commission and the New Patriotic Party to rig the 2020 elections.
Meanwhile the lawmaker’s comments about the second lady have been heavily criticised by a section of Ghanaians on social media who has described his comments as reckless.
