Daily Trust reports that the Kano Emirate Council said it only knew about the emir's appointment online and on social media on Monday. A source within the council said its leadership is yet to be served with the appointment letter officially. “Of course, we have read on various social media and conventional online media platforms about the appointment of His Highness, Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi as Chairman of Kano State Council of Chiefs, however, the state government did not serve the palace with the letter," the source said. “We woke up in the morning (yesterday) to read about the appointment, but up to this time that I am speaking with you, we have not been served with a copy of the letter," the source added. He also said that the council will readily read and respond to the letters of the appointment once it receives it He said: “When we are served, then we will study and respond to it. But for now, I cannot respond to something which I have not been served with."
In a statement by the governor's spokesperson, the emir is expected to serve for two years before the position is transferred to another emir in a rotational pattern that would be chosen by the governor of the state.
