Sheikh Anas Tawfiq has receieved serious bashing from the public as he refused to stand to greet the President and this issue is trending on social media.
According to the scholar he doesn't stand to greet his fellow human being and not even the President is excluded.He is of the view that standing to greet is worshiping your fellow human and no human can take a soul to heaven except Allah.
The renowned Islamic cleric and leader of the Darul Hadith Institute for Islamic Studies in the Ashanti Region in delivering his semon last friday said: "You want me to shy away from my sunnah and religion but it will never happen" I respect the President ,I am not arrogant but just following my religion.
I am Ahlisunna and i don't stand to greet fellow human being : he added.
He narratesd an Hadith during the era of the Prophet S.A.W when Mahawiya visited.Abdullahi bin Zubaid didnt stand to greet Mahawiya but Abdullai bin Ahmid stood for mahawiya. Mahawiya instructed Abdullahi bin Ahmid to sit.
