Following
the Xenophobia attacks on Nigerians in South Africa, the Vice President of
Nigeria Yemi Osinbajo has boycotted the WEF summit.
The Vice
president is to address a panel gathering on Thursday, 5th September 2019 on
Universal Energy in Cape Town, South Africa.
According to
the Nigeria Foreign Minister Geoffery Onyeama, the Vice President’s security is
threatened as the environment in South Africa is unsafe as the violence keeps spreading.
He added that the decision is agreed between the President and the Vice.
The organizers
have confirmed Yemi Osinbajo will not attend the summit in Cape town.
Meanwhile
the Vice President is scheduled to attend another summit in Ghana to
participate in the 2019 African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) in Accra.
The Vice
President disclosed this on his instagram page. He wrote:Today,I participated
in 2019 African Green Revolution Forum(AGRF) in Accra ,Ghana, themed: “Grow Digital:
Leveraging Digital Transformation to Drive Sustainable Food System in Africa”
and noted how digital technology is already changing the face of Agriculture in
Nigeria with several tech companies already active in Agriculture space.”
The Economic
Relationship between South Africa and Nigeria is been threatened as this
violence increases. The Nigeria High Commissioner to South Africa has also been
recalled.
The
Entertainment Industry has also been affected by the violence as most
Celebrities from Nigeria like Tiwa Savage, Basket Mouth etc. also withdraw from
the upcoming DStv Delicious Festival coming on the 21st ofSeptember in Johannesburg.
The
Telecommunication Industry is also affected as MTN Nigeria shuts down its
outlets and service centers until further notice after its premises was attacked
by the angry citizens.
