On the 6th March 1957 Ghana became
independent and republic on the 1st July 1960 with Dr. Asagyefo Kwame Nkrumah
as the prime minister and first President of the republic Ghana. He ruled for
nine years until his government was toppled in February 1969 and that brought
to an end the first republic.Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was a visionary leader who had a
brilliant plan for the generation to come. He built Alosombo Dam, Tema port,
Tema community and the motor way, to mention but few. Since the overthrow of
Dr. Kwame Nkrumah the infrastructure developmental projects of Ghana has slowed
down.
Today’s Politician come into power to
amass wealth for themselves and their associates, their children school abroad
at the expense of the tax payer, the politician drives in luxury cars, built
mansions and party outside Ghana whiles the tax payer and the ordinary Ghanaian
has to go through hell before he can afford the three square meal. Ghanaian
Politician will come into power with nothing and exited with everything money
can buy and we don’t have the system that checks and deals with such glorified
criminals who pretends to be serving mother Ghana but in actual fact come to
steal from us.
The only time politician listen to our
plight is when elections is around the corner and our votes is needed to
continue staying in the office or to come to power and steal from the state
coffers. Have you noticed that most completed projects that are ready for use
and sod cutting for the new projects are done when elections is drawing nearer
so that the voter can see they are working. The electorate is more discerning
now than ever. We have gotten to the stage where the electorate will take
whatever the politician has to offer to induce them to vote for them but the
voter will take it and vote for who he thinks is the right man for the job. So
if the mentality of the years back is still in the skull of the politician is
better they come again.
My humble advice to the Ghanaian voter
is let us demand for accountability from our leaders and all the people we
entrusted the care of this nation into their hands. Let’s make the politician
eat humble pie. We are the king maker, we are employer and they are employee,
we put food on their tables, we cloth and provide shelter for them. We are the
tax payers we pay them and we deserve better.
