During the Hajj some Ghanaians living in Saudi Arabia were arrested
by the Police for staying illegally. Most Ghanaians living there go as domestic workers, drivers etc but end up absconding before their contracts
expires.
According to Hajia Zainab from Saudi, most of those deported
were arrested during the Hajj season as they came out to perform hajj or do business.
She added that ,some have rented their
own houses and working even though they are living illegally in Saudi but if caught you would be deported. Living in Saudi Arabia as illegally is a matter of
LUCK!
She also said the reason why they escape to be on their own
before the contract expires is because they are made to do lots of house chores and
work that are not specified in the contracts. Also they are been maltreated,
raped and their salaries withheld by their host.
The lucky ones to have good hosts enjoy their stay till their contracts expires and some even get
renewed. The host reward them with gift and money for their hard work
.
The 22 Ghanaians who were arrested and deported were caught
during the Hajj season for illegally living in Saudi Arabia. The deportess are 21 females and 1 male.
